They say the inspiration of this unique driver shape is based on the Amazonian Black Caiman. A powerful beast that is related to the alligator and is the largest predator in the Amazon.  We've heard it hunts for birds, just like you do on the golf course! Several versions of this driver were drafted and changed using CAD software until CG location was optimized for the absolute best results. The elongated head plus optimal internal weighting produced an extremely stable, high MOI design for incredible raw distance and control. Finishing off this awesome design is a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating, creating not only the extremely durable finish, but also provides the sharp black appearance!

Featuring the same radical square profile as the original Mantara, the XL version has been "flattened out" in order to stretch the dimensions to new limits. The XL is broader from front-to-back, (8mm) and slightly shallower (4mm) than the original Mantara to retain the maximum (460cc) volume. This moves the center of gravity not only further back, but lower too. This helps to further maximize the moment of inertia (MOI), resulting in less twisting on off-center shots. In addtion, the launch angle of the ball coming off of the active titanium face is slightly higher, but with reduced spin for maximum distance. The easy to align aerodynamic profile is made from a 6-4 titanium face and a thin, lightweight titanium crown, skirt, and soleplate. Find more fairways off the tee, and lower your score!

Thirteen months on the design table, comes to life in the Spectrum. The first ever full 3 sided wrap around soleplate design. The folks at SMT wanted a clubhead that had the most efficient transfer of power that I could get. They wanted the ball to leave the clubface as quickly and as legally as possible, and wanted it to feel and look like nothing that has ever been done before. Due to the manufacturing process, it is almost impossible to have a soleplate that covers three distinctive sides of the head. Sole, backskirt and crown. It takes on a special meaning since SMT heads are made differently than all other heads.

This unique design afforded them the luxury of both deepening the Center Of Gravity and at the same time, raising it. This gives us the best of both worlds. Amazingly solid feel at impact and a trajectory that is not too high to promote roll. The see through black color gives this head instant recognition as a winner.
